Courtney Burns enters her fourth season as the Head Coach of the Post University Women's Basketball program in 2026-27.
The 2025-26 season would yield similar struggles to the start of the campaign due to injuries, resulting in a 1-7 start that Burns' team was able to turn around for the second above. 500 season in three seasons with her at the helm, as well as the fifth in the last six years. The Eagles would end the regular season on a six-game winning streak, resulting in them getting the sixth seed in the CACC Tournament where they fell to Caldwell University, the three seed, 53-41. Burns manufactured one CACC All-Conference player in junior forward Alyssa Rossignol, who was named to the Second Team. Her team would also play the longest game in CACC history, going to four overtime against Jefferson University on February 7th, 2026 in a 104-99 victory, overcoming a 19-point deficit along the way. the game tied for the longest in Division II East Region Women's Basketball history with a quadruple overtime affair on January 28, 2009 between Bentley University and Stonehill College that saw the Skyhawks outlast the Falcons, 87-82.
After struggling at the start of her second season, the Eagles turned it around down the stretch, winning five of their last six regular-season games to get into the CACC Tournament as the North Division's three seed before falling to Holy Family University in the CACC Quarterfinals, 71-45. Alyssa Rossignol was named CACC All-Conference Third Team while Naj White became the first player in program history to win CACC Student-Athlete of the Month in December 2024, and two more Eagles were CSC Academic All-District Team.
The first season under Burns saw the Eagles win their fourth straight CACC North Division Regular Season Championship with a 12-4 record in conference play before falling to Goldey-Beacom College in the CACC Quarterfinals, 68-64. That season, Maya Klein was named to the CACC All-Conference Second Team under her leadership, while four players were named CACC All-Academic and two were CSC Academic All-District Team.
Before coming to Post, Burns was the head coach at Mitchell College, where she led the Mariners to back-to-back New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Tournament Championships, the first two in school history, while also qualifying for the Division III NCAA Tournament. During the 2022-23 season, the Mariners went undefeated in conference play, going 8-0.
Burns was twice named the NECC Coach of the Year in 2022-2023 and 2018-19 and owns the most wins in program history with 76, including a 46-16 record in conference. She has also coached 12 All-Conference players, three NECC Rookies of the Year, two Defensive Player of the Year winners, and one Player of the Year to go along with two 1,000-point scorers. Burns also served as the Strength and Conditioning Coach at Mitchell.
Prior to Mitchell, Burns made a few stops throughout New England, serving as an assistant coach at Southern New Hampshire University, Southern Connecticut State University, and Johnson and Wales University.
Burns is also the founder of Burns Elite Training, which develops basketball skill programs for youth and college players. She has also served as an AAU head coach for the CT Attack and as a Co-Director of a Nike Girls Basketball Camp since 2018.
During her playing days at Rhode Island College, Burns helped lead the Anchorwomen to the 2011-2012 Little East Conference (LEC) championship, the first in school history, qualifying them for the NCAA Tournament. She scored 849 points in her collegiate career, and was named to the LEC All-Rookie Team in 2009-2010 and was named to both the All-LEC First Team and All-LEC Defensive Team in 2012-2013.
After college, Burns played with the Brockton Lady Thunder Semi-Pro team and represented the United States of America for the American International Sports Team.
Burns earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rhode Island College, majoring in Mathematics with a minor in coaching, and earned her Master's of Science in Sport Management degree at Southern New Hampshire University.
