Bridgeport, Molloy Advance To ECAC Women's Soccer Championship Match

WATERBURY, Conn.-The number-one seed University of Bridgeport and the number-two seed Molloy College advanced to the championship match of the ECAC Division II Women's Soccer Championships with a pair of 1-0 wins on a sunny and windy Saturday afternoon at LaMoy Field on the Post University campus.

In the first semifinal of the day, the top-seed Purple Knights defeated the Post University women's soccer team with a goal by Jami Elliott at the 30:42 mark of the contest. The goal was set up, by a long cross from Sofia Hoflin about 10 yards below the midfield line.

Freshman Brittany Carroll (Plainville, Conn./Plainville) made six saves for the Eagles, including five in the second half. Amanda Roche did not have to make a save for the Purple Knights.

In the second semifinal of the afternoon, the second-seeded Molloy used a breakaway goal from Gillian Fortune at the 85:31 mark to send it to the finals on Sunday. Until that point in the contest Molloy had a few scoring chances, but could not convert.

Paula Sanelli made two saves to record the win for Molloy, and Lindsay Hammond, kept Georgian Court in the contest, stopping eight shots.

Bridgeport and Molloy have met twice this season, with the Purple Eagles holding wins in both contests, Bridgeport took the first match 7-1 on September 26, and the second 2-0, on October 27.

The championship match is slated to begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. Following the championship match Post will face Georgian Court in the third-place match. It will be the second meeting of the season for the CACC foes, as GCU defeated the Eagles 2-1 on September 23.
