Women's Soccer Falls To Dowling, 4-0

September 17, 2007

WATERBURY, Conn.-Maria Saitta netted a pair of goals, to lead Dowling College to a 4-0 win over the Post University women's soccer team, on Monday afternoon at LaMoy Field.

With the win, Dowling improves to 6-2, while the Eagles fall to 0-7.

Dowling scored its first goal in the sixth minute, as Vanessa Moreira dribbled into the box, and placed a shot just inside the right post.

The Eagles had two nice chances at knotting the match at 1-1, as freshman Rachel Shivers went 1-on-1 with the keeper, and was stopped. Later in the half, Shivers was able to get a head on a long pass from a teammate, but it sailed just wide of the goal, as Dowling took a 1-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, Saitta scored the first of her two goals on the afternoon with an assist from Cassandra Cronin in the 58th minute of play. She added her second goal of the game at the 73:35 mark off a feed from Stephanie Cotter with a feed into the box.

Sabrina D'Aprile closed the books on the scoring with a tally in the 89th minute.

Junior Morgan Luschenat recorded 15 saves for the Eagles, while Dowling's Alicia Commiso stopped two shots to earn the win.

Post returns to LaMoy Field on Saturday afternoon, as it hosts Chestnut Hill College for the first CACC meeting between the two schools. Please note the new start time, as the game will now kickoff at 3 p.m. following the Post men's game against Chestnut Hill at 1 p.m.
