Women's Soccer Falls 1-0, To No. 23 New Haven

August 26, 2007

BRIDGEPORT, Conn.-Nicole Grimaldi's unassisted tally in the 59th minute proved to be the difference, as the University of New Haven defeated the Post University women's soccer team, 1-0, on Sunday in the second-round of the 2007 Connecticut Cup at Knights Field, on the campus of the University of Bridgeport.

Junior Morgan Luschenat kept the Eagles (0-2) in the contest, recording a career-high 10 saves. She stopped nine in the first half along, and the Chargers peppered the Eagles with 15 shots in the opening stanza.

New Haven (1-0-1) finally broke through at the 58:31 mark, with Grimaldi's first goal of the season.

Freshman Susan Curran and senior tri-captain Maria Krug each had a shot for the Eagles. Curran who made her collegiate debut on Friday, in fine fashion, scored off a free kick from junior Jackie Sutton, in a 4-1 loss to Bridgeport in the first round of the Connecticut Cup.

The Cup features each of the four NCAA Division II women's soccer teams in the State, Bridgeport, New Haven, Post, and Southern Connecticut State University. Last year, in the first-round of the Connecticut Cup, the Chargers defeated the Eagles 3-0.

Post will open the home portion of its schedule on Wednesday afternoon, with a non-conference game against Bentley College. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m. on LaMoy Field. Last season, the Eagles were 7-1-3 on their home field.
