Women's SoccerWomen's Soccer Drops Season Opener To Bridgeport August 24, 2007 BRIDGEPORT, Conn.-The Post University women's soccer team opened the season, with a 4-1 loss to the University of Bridgeport, in the first-round of the second-annual Connecticut Cup at Knights Field on Friday morning. Bridgeport (1-0) wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard as Elin Harin took a feed from Sofia Hoflin and placed it in the top right corner of the goal to take a 1-0 lead at 2:21. The score would remain that way, until the 14th minute when the duo was at it again, this time with Hoflin getting free of the defense and placing it into the back of the net. Post halved the Bridgeport lead in the 19th minute, when junior tri-captain Jackie Sutton took a free kick from about 45 yards out. Sutton sent the ball on goal, which found freshman Susan Curran in front of the Bridgeport keeper. Curran headed the ball into the back of the net, cutting the Bridgeport lead to 2-1. The Eagles came close to tying it about 10 minutes later, as Sutton once again sent in a long free kick, this time from about 35 yards away. Her ball went off the foot of a Bridgeport defender, and it deflected right at the top left corner but sailed just wide, keeping the score 2-1. Hoflin added an insurance goal at 30:49, off a feed from Linda Velaj. Velaj added an unassisted tally to close out the scoring for Bridgeport in the 33rd minute. Junior Morgan Luschenat made her first collegiate start for the Eagles recording seven saves, including three in the second half. Bridgeport held a 23-1 edge in shots, attempting only seven in the second half. The Purple Knights also had a 4-2 margin in corner kicks. Bridgeport was whistled for 11 fouls, while the Eagles were called for only four. Each team was called offsides twice.
