Georgian Court Edges Women's Soccer, 2-1, In CACC Championships

LAKEWOOD, N.J.-Georgian Court scored two goals in the first half, and held on to defeat the Post University women's soccer team, in the quarterfinals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Soccer Championships on Tuesday afternoon.

The loss ends the Eagles season with a 5-13-1 overall record and a 5-5-1 mark in the CACC. Post won three of the last four matches of the regular season, and five of its last seven, to earn a trip to the CACC Championships for the third time in as many years.

Georgian Court advances to the CACC semifinals on Thursday evening, against Philadelphia University, who defeated Caldwell College 3-0 this afternoon.

GCU broke the ice in the 25th minute of play, when Nicole Mateyka sent a long diagonal pass into Skyler Eiceman's run that she placed in the far post, putting the Lions on the board at the 24:04 mark.

The Lions added another goal, before halftime when Dana DePalma's header off a cross from the right flank by Shannon Mastrogiovanni, went into the back of the net at the 42:07 mark of the contest.

Post made a late flurry, when freshman Mallorie Michalak went 1-on-1 with the keeper, and putting it passed her, after taking a feed from senior Jackie Sutton. It was her third tally of the season for the freshman.

Lindsay Hammond stopped six shots for the Lions, while junior Morgan Luschenat stopped two shots in the first half, and junior Stephanie Goss made eight saves in the second stanza.

GCU out shot the Eagles 17-9, including a 10-3 edge in the second half, and held a 6-3 margin in corner kicks.
