Curran's Tally Lifts Women's Soccer To 2-1 Win At Bloomfield

October 23, 2007

BLOOMFIELD, N.J.-Freshman Susan Curran, who was named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Co-Rookie of the Week on Monday, made a case for another honor, on Tuesday, as her header in the 83rd minute of play, lifted the Post University women's soccer team to a 2-1 win on the road at Bloomfield on Tuesday afternoon.

Curran, who had three goals in three matches last week, headed home a free kick from senior Jackie Sutton to break a 1-1 tie at the 82:50 mark of the contest. Curran notched her sixth goal of the season, and fourth in the last four matches for the Eagles.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 5-12-1 overall and 5-5-1 in the CACC. The Eagles solidified a spot in the CACC Championships which begin on Tuesday, Oct. 30. The field will be announced later this week.

Bloomfield broke the ice in the 17th minute when Michelle Giuca on a turn and go off a throw in, beat the defender and chipped the ball over Post keeper junior Morgan Luschenat, giving the Deacons a 1-0 lead.

However, the Eagles would tie it, about five minutes later, when sophomore Sarah Beyers ripped a shot from a sharp angle and over the head of the Bloomfield keeper, to knot the game at 1-1 at the 22:14 mark of the contest. It was Beyers second goal of the season, as she had the game-winner in a 3-2 overtime win at Caldwell on the road last week.

The score would remain that way until; Curran's header late in the contest.

Luschenat recorded three saves in goal, to earn the victory for the Eagles. Bloomfield's Danielle Blumbert stopped 11 shots, as Post out shot the Deacons 22-8, including a 10-2 margin in the first half. Post also held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks, taking three in the second half.

Today's win closes out the regular season for the Eagles, who will make their third appearance in the CACC Tournament next Tuesday, in as many years
