Curran Scores Twice, To Lead Women's Soccer To 3-0 Win

October 16, 2007

WATERBURY, Conn.-Freshman Susan Curran, netted a pair of goals, and freshman Rachel Shivers had a goal and an assist, as the Post University women's soccer team defeated Nyack College on Tuesday afternoon at LaMoy Field.

Curran scored her third and fourth goals of the season, while Shivers tallied her team-leading seventh of the season, as the Eagles recorded their second shutout of the season, to improve to 3-11-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). Nyack falls to 7-9 overall and 4-5 in CACC action.

Post struck first in the ninth minute of play, as Shivers passed the ball back to Curran, who was about 10 yards out. She fired the ball at the near post, to break the ice, and give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

The lead would hold up, until the 62nd minute of play, when the Eagles added an insurance goal, as sophomore Sarah Beyers sent a long cross in from the left side of the pitch, which found Shivers, who was camped out about 10 yards away. She fired a shot to the far post, giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead.

Post added another goal in the 69th minute as the ball got loose in front of the Nyack keeper, and Curran got to it and batted it into the back of the net.

Junior Morgan Luschenat picked up her first career shutout, stopping four shots for the Eagles.

Whitney Shutt and Faith Mol split time for Nyack, as Shutt had three saves, and Mol had a pair.

Post enjoyed a 13-9 advantage in shots, including a 7-2 margin in the second half. The Eagles also had a 6-2 edge in corner kicks, taking five in the second stanza.

The Eagles return to the pitch on Thursday afternoon, as they travel to Caldwell College for a CACC contest at 3 p.m. The match was originally slated for September 11, but the match was postponed until Thursday due to poor field conditions.
