Women's Soccer Hosts ECAC Championships

CENTERVILLE, Mass.-Post University will host the 2006 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II Women's Soccer Championships, November 8-11 at LaMoy Field. The Eagles are the number-four seed and will square off with number-five seed St. Vincent College (Pa.) on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m.

"We are excited to play and host the ECAC's," Post Head Coach Matt Micros, said. "We have worked extremely hard and it's nice to see our effort rewarded. It's another great building block for our program."

Should the Eagles advance, they will face the number-one seed University of Bridgeport on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at LaMoy Field. In the other semifinal on Saturday, the number-two seed Molloy College will square off with the number-three seed Georgian Court at 2 p.m.

The winners will meet in the championship match on Sunday, at 2 p.m. The third-place match begins the action on Sunday with an 11 a.m. kickoff.

Bridgeport enters the tournament with a 15-5-2 overall record, and a 9-1-2 mark in the East Coast Conference (ECC). Molloy is 13-6 overall, and finished with a 7-4 ECC record.

Georgian Court begins ECAC action with an 11-6-2 overall record and an 8-1-2 mark in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). The Eagles are 10-7-3 overall and 7-2-1 in CACC play this season. Playing as an independent, St. Vincent is 9-9 overall.

The Eagles are making their first-ever appearance in the ECAC Championships, after posting the second-best win total in school-history, in addition to setting a new school-record for conference wins in a season with seven.

Junior Maria Krug (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) who was named to the first-team All-CACC, and the CACC All-Tournament team leads the Eagles with nine goals and three assists for 21 points. Freshman Kelli Veras (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) who was named the CACC Rookie of the Year also has 21 points on the season, as she has recorded five goals and 11 assists.

In four of the last five matches, the Eagles have shut out their opponents, and enter the ECAC Tournament with a 6-1-3 record at LaMoy Field, including a 2-0 win in the quarterfinals of the CACC Women's Soccer Championships over Dominican College.
