November 2, 2006

PHILADELPHIA-Junior Shannon Firetto (Vernon, Conn./Rockville) and junior Maria Krug (Norwich, Conn./Norwich) were named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Soccer All-Tournament Team on Wednesday evening, following the CACC Championship match against Philadelphia University and Holy Family University.

Firetto helped the Eagles to reach the semifinals by recording a goal and an assist in a 2-0 win over Dominican College on October 23. She scored the first goal of the game at the 74:22 mark off a feed from freshman Katie Sabal (Naugatuck, Conn./Naugatuck). Then, about two minutes later, she found freshman Kaitlyn Delaney (Springfield, Mass./Sabbis) who one-timed it into the back of the net. She is fourth on the team in scoring with three goals and five assists for 11 points.

Krug played a solid defensive game in the quarterfinals, and provided the Eagles some offense in the semifinals, as she tallied a penalty shot in the second half. The Norwich, Conn. native is tied for the team lead in points with 21 as she has scored nine goals and dished out three assists.

In the CACC Championship match, Holy Family and Philadelphia played to a 1-1 tie, with Philadelphia winning 5-4 in penalty kicks.

Post is 10-7-3 overall and finished the season with its best CACC mark with a 7-2-1 record. The Eagles are awaiting a possible ECAC Championship berth. The field for the ECAC Championships will be announced op Monday, Nov. 6.
