October 25, 2006

RUTHERFORD, N.J.-The number-four seed Post University women's soccer team, dropped a 3-1 decision, to the number-one seed Philadelphia University, in the semifinals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Soccer Championships at Tryon Field on Wednesday afternoon.

The loss drops the Eagles to 10-7-3 overall, and Philadelphia improves to 12-4-2 and will advance to the championship match on Saturday afternoon. Post will await word on a possible ECAC Tournament appearance, as the field for the ECAC Tournament will be announced next week.

Philadelphia scored the first goal of the contest at the 15:46 mark, when Jessica Aaron took a corner kick and found Rebecca Kennedy from 10-yards out, to make it 1-0 in favor of the Rams.

Post apparently tied it with about 19 minutes left in the second half, as junior Maria Krug (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) too a free kick from about 20 yards out and put it into the top left corner of the goal. However, the goal was disallowed as the official originally called for an indirect kick, and Krug took a direct kick, which kept the score 1-0 in favor of the Rams.

Brianna Reinford gave Philadelphia a 2-0 lead at the 82:36 mark, heading a Kelly Davis throw in and putting it into the back of the net.

Krug, who was named first-team All-CACC on Tuesday, put the Eagle on the board on a penalty kick at the 86:44 mark of the contest, it was her team-leading ninth goal of the season.

Philadelphia would close out the scoring with 1:25 left in the period as Aaron put it in after a deflection off a throw in by Davis.

Freshman Karalee Desrosiers (Granby, Mass./Granby) and freshman Brittany Carroll (Plainville, Conn./Plainville) split time in goal for the Eagles. Desrosiers who was selected second-team All-CACC as a goalkeeper, made three saves in the first half, while Carroll made one save in the second half.

Sara Hall, who was named first-team All-CACC as a goalkeeper for Philadelphia made one save.

Philadelphia held a 12-9 margin in shots, but Post enjoyed a 6-2 edge in corner kicks. Philadelphia was called for 12 fouls, while the Eagles were whistled for four. Neither team was called offsides.

While awaiting word on a possible ECAC Tournament bid, the Eagles recorded the second-most wins in a season with 10, and the most CACC victories with seven.
