Women's BasketballBloomfield Holds Off Women's Basketball, 84-74 February 13, 2008 WATERBURY, Conn.-Freshman Mallorie Michalak (Meriden, Conn./Platt) recorded a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Post University women's basketball team, in an 84-74 loss to Bloomfield College, Wednesday evening at the Drubner Center. With the win, Bloomfield improves to 12-11 overall and 9-5 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC), while the Eagles fall to 4-18 overall and 4-11 in the CACC. Michalak connected on 3-of-7 from the field, and was 7-of-9 from the charity stripe. She also dished out five assists. Senior LaToya Coley (Brooklyn, N.Y./Mohawk Valley C.C.) added 13 points. Senior Jennifer Rose (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown North) chipped in with 12 points. Rose was 4-of-8 from the field, while knocking down three three-pointers. Junior Kendra Pitts (Detroit, Mich./Indiana Tech) recorded double figures for the third consecutive games with 11 points on 3-of-6 shooting. She also grabbed seven rebounds and had an assist and a block. Ciera Darby led all scorers with 23 points on 10-of-20 shooting for Bloomfield. Shantae Barnes recorded a double-double with 20 points and 15 rebounds. Emily Horrocks had 16 points, and Tiffany McDaniel added 10. For the game, the Eagles connected on 40.4 percent (23-57) from the field, and 47.6 percent (10-21) from three-point range. Post knocked down 5-of-10 from three-point land in the second half. Post was 18-of-26 from the free throw line, including 11-of-15 in the second half. Bloomfield shot 46.8 percent (29-62) from the field, 50 percent (6-12) from three-point range, and 71.4 percent (20-28) from the foul line. The Deacons held a slight 40-38 margin on the boards, but the Eagles had a 13-12 edge on the offensive glass. Bloomfield had a 38-20 edge in points in the paint, and scored 27 points off of 21 Eagle turnovers. Post did have a 12-11 advantage in second chance points. Tonight's game was also "Think Pink" Night, as both the men's and women's basketball teams helped raise funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer. Players on both teams wore special "Think Pink" shirts in warm-ups, and the coaching and athletic staff wore pink shirts as well. Post returns to the hardwood on Saturday afternoon, as they host
Wilmington College for a 1 p.m. tip-off.
