Women's BasketballWomen's Basketball Falls To C.W. Post December 29, 2007 WATERBURY, Conn.-Senior guard Jennifer Rose (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown North) had a team-high 12 points, for the Post University women's basketball team in a 60-34 loss to C.W. Post on Saturday afternoon at the Drubner Center. Rose connected 3-of-5 from the field, knocking down three three-pointers on the day. She also converted 3-of-4 from the charity stripe, and grabbed four rebounds in 27 minutes for the Eagles (0-8). C.W. Post (6-4) had three players in double figures led by Gina Catherall who had a game-high 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Jasmine Moore netted 12 points and controlled a game-high 15 rebounds, while Whitney Murrer added 12 points as well. In the first half, the Eagles led by as much as eight points after Rose netted a trey, giving Post a 20-12 lead with 9:57 left until halftime. Rose led the Eagles with 11 points in the opening 20 minutes of play. C.W. Post was able to cut the halftime deficit to 22-21. The Eagles were able to get the lead back up to six points early in the second half, thanks to a fast break lay-up from freshman Mallorie Michalak (Meriden, Conn./Platt High), giving Post a 29-23 lead with 17:23 left to play. A jumper by Murrer sparked a 9-0 run, which gave the Pioneers a 32-29 lead at the 15:07 mark of the second half. Post struggled from the field connecting on only 25 percent (13-52) from the field, and 26.3 percent (5-19) from three-point range. The Eagles were 4-of-7 from behind the arch in the first half. C.W. Post shot 38.3 percent (23-60) from the field, including 50 percent (15-30) in the second half. The Pioneers forced the Eagles into 20 turnovers, resulting in 24 points. The Pioneers also enjoyed an advantage on the inside with a 48-30 edge on the glass, including a 16-7 margin on the offensive glass. C.W. Post scored 14 second chance points and 24 points in the paint. The Eagles return to the hardwood, for the first time in the New
Year, on Thursday, Jan. 3 against in-state rival, the University of
Bridgeport. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. in the Harvey Hubble Gym
on the campus of the University of Bridgeport.
