Women's Basketball Stumbles Against Franklin Pierce

WATERBURY, Conn.-Jennifer Leedham scored 24 points and her sister Johanna Leedham added 13 to lead Franklin Pierce to its fourth straight win, with a 93-28 victory of the Post University women's basketball team Friday afternoon at the Drubner Center.

Johanna scored all 13 of her points in the first half for the Ravens (9-1), while, sister Jennifer, tallied 11 of her game-high 24 points in the opening 20 minutes. Angelica Benjamin added 11 points and Alexis Auffray chipped in with 10, as Franklin Pierce had four scorers in double digits.

The Eagles (0-6) were led by senior guard Jackie Sutton (Dryden, N.Y./Tompkins-Cortland C.C.) and freshman guard Mallorie Michalak (Meriden, Conn./Platt High) with six points apiece. Sutton also had two blocks and two steals, while Michalak added a pair of steals.

Senior guard Jennifer Rose (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown North) and sophomore center Kendra Pitts (Detroit, Mich./Indiana Tech) added five points for the Eagles. Pitts led Post with a career-high seven caroms.

After a three-pointer by Rose to take a 3-2 lead, the Ravens went on an 11-0 run to take an 18-3 lead at the 15:16 mark of the first half and went into halftime leading 44-10.

Post committed 31 turnovers that led to 33 Franklin Pierce points. Post also struggled shooting the basketball connecting on only 11 field goals in the game. Franklin Pierce connected on 50 percent (34-68) from the field, including 54.8 percent (17-31) in the second half. The Ravens also held a 49-27 rebounding advantage.

The Eagles return to the hardwood on Thursday, Dec. 20, as they travel to Bryant College for a 5:30 p.m. tip. Post returns to the Drubner Center on Saturday, Dec. 29 for a non-conference game against C.W. Post. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m.
