Women's BasketballWomen's Basketball Falls To USP, 84-73 December 8, 2007 WATERBURY, Conn.-Junior Stephanie Goss had a team-high 18 points, for the Post University women's basketball team, in an 84-73 loss to University of the Sciences, Saturday afternoon at the Drubner Center. The loss drops the Eagles to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). USP improved to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in CACC play. It was the fifth game in a row that Goss has scored in double-digits, as she converted 8-of-10 from the floor, while controlling seven rebounds. Senior LaToya Coley chipped in with 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting. Coley netted a game-high five field goals from behind the three-point line, while grabbing four rebounds and dishing out four assists. Freshman Mallorie Michalak added 10 points and four assists for the Eagles. Erin Chesnavich scored a career-high 29 points, including 14 in the second half and Allison Weiss added 14 second half points, while controlling 10 rebounds for the double-double. Colleen Christian had 15 points and Alyssa Hamm added 13 to lead four Devils in double digits. With USP leading by eight points late in the first half, the Eagles went on an 8-2 run over the final 2:31 to cut the Devil lead to 35-33, heading into the locker room at half time. The momentum carried over for the Eagles, as they opened the second stanza with a 7-4 run to take a 40-39 lead. The lead see-sawed back and forth, before Post took a 50-45, it's largest of the game, with 14:01 remaining after a three-pointer by senior Jennifer Rose. Unfortunately for the Eagles, the Devils outscored Post 30-9 over the next 10:06 to take a 16-point lead at 75-59. Post shot 41.8 percent (28-67) from the field and connected on 9-of-12 from three-point range (50 percent). USP shot 50.9 percent (28-55) from the field and 33.3 percent (4-12) from three-point range. The Devils out rebounded the Eagles 41-34, but the Eagles enjoyed a 14-12 edge on the offensive glass. There were a total of 43 turnovers in the game (22 USP, 21 Post). Post returns to the Drubner Center on Friday, Dec. 14, for a non-conference game against Franklin Pierce University. games for the Eagles this season ... The 73 points was the highest
offensive effort of the season for Post ... Goss recorded a
season-best eight field goals ... Post shot 53.6 percent (15-28)
from the field in the second half ... Post held USP to 2-of-10 from
three-point range in the second half ... The scored was tied five
times, and there was six lead changes in the contest.
