Women's BasketballWomen's Basketball Drops 73-61 Decision At Nyack December 1, 2007 NYACK, N.Y.-Despite 24 points from senior guard LaToya Coley (Brooklyn, N.Y./Mohawk Valley C.C.), the Post University women's basketball team dropped a 73-61 decision to Nyack College, in the first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest of the season. With the win, Nyack improves to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the CACC, while the Eagles fall to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play. Coley was 8-of-16 from the field to lead three Eagles in double figures on the afternoon. The Brooklyn native also drained three three-pointers and was a perfect 5-of-5 from the charity stripe. Junior forward Stephanie Goss (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) had her second-highest scoring effort of the season for the Eagles with 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting. Goss knocked down each of her four charity stripe tosses. She also grabbed a team-high eight caroms. Freshman Mallorie Michalak (Meriden, Conn./Platt) chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds. It was her second consecutive double-digit effort of the season. She also dished out three assists. Nyack was led by Shelly Yount who had 13 points and seven rebounds, while Sarah Sauer added 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds. The Warriors built a 16-point advantage in the first half after a pair of free throws from Tamyra Lathon with 3:27 to go. But, Post went on an 8-3 run sparked by a trey from Coley, who had five points in that stretch to go into the halftime break trailing 38-27. The Eagles were able to whittle the lead down to eight points on a few occasions, but were unable to cut the deficit any closer. Post struggled from the field connecting on 39.6 percent (21-53), it was also able to shoot better from three-point range, sinking 46.2 percent (6-13) from distance. The Eagles were also close to automatic at the free throw line, finishing with 81.3 percent (13-16), including 6-of-7 in the second half. Nyack converted 42.4 percent (25-59) from the field, and 35.3 percent (6-17) from three-point range. Post returns home on Saturday, Dec. 8 with a CACC clash against USP, tip-off is slated for 1 p.m. The game will be webcast on http://www.posteagles.com/, with Joe Coss (play-by-play) calling the action, beginning with the Nike pre-game show at 12:35 p.m. Game Notes: The first nine points of the games
for the Eagles were from three-point range, as Natasha Box, Coley,
and Michalak each found their range from behind the arc ... Coley
scored the 12th point of the game for the Eagles on an
ole fashion three-point play ... Coley who had 24 points this
evening, came close to equaling her feet from last season at Bowman
Gym, where she had 29 points on 8-of-18 shooting on seven
three-pointers, and six free throws ... Goss has scored at least 11
points and has grabbed at least seven rebounds in each of the four
games for the Eagles this season ... The 61 points ties a season
high for the Eagles, as they equaled that mark against New York
Tech on November 20.
