Women's Basketball Stumbles At St. Anselm

MANCHESTER, N.H.-The Post University women's basketball team had its second-highest offensive output of the season, but it was not enough in a 73-58 loss to St. Anselm College Wednesday evening at Stoutenbugh Gym. The Eagles were led by senior guard LaToya Coley (Brooklyn, N.Y./Mohawk Valley C.C.) and freshman guard Mallorie Michalk (Meriden, Conn./Platt) who each had a game-high 13 points.

Post falls to 0-3 on the season, dropping its third straight, while St. Anselm improves to 1-3 on the season.

Coley connected on 5-of-12 from the floor, and netted three three-pointers in 25 minutes of action for the Eagles. Michalk converted 5-of-10 from the field, knocking down two treys, grabbing six rebounds, and dishing out two assists.

The duo led four scorers in double-digits for the Eagles, as senior guard Jackie Sutton (Dryden, N.Y./Tompkins Cortland C.C.) chipped in with 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including eight points in the first half. Sutton also grabbed four rebounds and had an assist.

Junior forward Stephanie Goss (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) added 11 points, while converted 6-of-10 from the free throw line. Goss also led the Eagles with seven rebounds on the evening.

St. Anselm jumped out to a 20-10 lead with 8:37 left in the opening stanza, with a bucket from Courtney Macaruso. The Hawks were led in scoring by Rachel Reilly who had 12 points, while grabbing six rebounds and dishing out four assists. Justine Lyons was one rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Post shot 37.7 percent (20-53) from the field, including 44.4 percent (12-27) in the second half. The Eagles also knocked down 6-of-13 from three-point range in the second half.

St. Anselm connected on 43.3 percent (26-60) from the field, 45.5 percent (10-22) from three-point range, and 78.6 percent (11-14) from the free throw line. The Hawks sank 58.3 percent (7-12) from distance in the second half.

The Eagles return to the hardwood on Saturday afternoon, as they open the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) portion of their schedule at Nyack College. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m. at Bowman Gymnasium.
