Michalak Leads All Scorers, As Women's Basketball Falls At Caldwell

CALDWELL, N.J.-Freshman Mallorie Michalak (Meriden, Conn./Platt) recorded a game-high 16 points, for the Post University women's basketball team, in a 77-53 loss to Caldwell College, Wednesday evening at the George R. Newman Center.

The loss is the second in a row for the Eagles, after winning three straight, as they fall to 3-11 overall and 3-6 in the CACC. Caldwell improves to 10-6 overall and 4-4 in CACC play.

Michalak connected on 5-of-6 shots from the field, while shooting a perfect 4-of-4 from the three-point range. She also knocked down both of her free throw attempts, and controlled four caroms.

Senior Jackie Sutton (Dryden, N.Y./Tompkins-Cortland C.C.) was the only other Eagle to reach double figures, as she had 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Sutton also grabbed four rebounds, playing a team-high 30 minutes in the game.

The Eagles shot 40.4 percent from the field on the evening, connecting on 21-of-52 shots. Post hit 11-of-25 from the field in the first half, heading into the locker room shooting 44 percent. Caldwell shot 47.1 percent from the floor, knocking down 32-of-68 shots.

Both teams struggled from three-point range, as the Eagles shot 6-of-18 (33.3%) from three-point land, and holding the Cougars to 2-of-10 (20%).

Caldwell controlled the inside, owning a 41-33 rebounding advantage, including a 15-9 edge on the offensive glass. Caldwell also held a 13-9 edge in second chance points, and scored 32 points on 27 Eagle turnovers. Post forced Caldwell into 15 miscues, but scored only nine points.

Mackenzie Lynch led all Caldwell scorers with 13 points on 5-of-5 from the floor. She also grabbed six rebounds and had two assists, two blocks and a steal. Stephanie Cadet chipped in with 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Cadet grabbed a team-best seven boards. Janay Perkins had 11 points and Abena George added 10.

Caldwell scored the first 10 points of the game, in the first two minutes and 25 seconds, and eventually expand to 15 points, before the Eagles went on a 7-0 run, to cut the Caldwell lead to 33-25 with 2:26 left until halftime.

The Cougars ended the first half, with a 7-2 run, to go into the locker room leading 40-27 at the break.

Caldwell began the second stanza with a 17-4 run, to extend its lead to 57-31.

The Eagles will return to the hardwood on Saturday afternoon, as they welcome Philadelphia University to the Drubner Center for a 1 p.m. tip-off. The game will be carried live on the Eagle Sports Network, as Joe Coss (play-by-play) and Claudel Jean Louis (color analyst) will have the call beginning with the Nike Pre-Game show at 12:35 p.m.
