Women's BasketballWomen's Basketball Win First Game At Felician January 10, 2008 RUTHERFORD, N.J.-Senior LaToya Coley led all scorers with 17 points, as the Post University women's basketball team defeated Felican College 62-52, Thursday evening, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game at Job Gym. It was the first win of the season for the Eagles and the first collegiate victory for Head Coach Tracey Garofalo. Coley finished the evening shooting 6-of-14 from the field, netting a season-best five three-pointers. Freshman Mallorie Michalak was the only other Eagle (1-11, 1-4 CACC) to record double-digits, with 11 points on 4-of-11 shooting. Michalak also grabbed five rebounds, dished out four assists, and had two blocks and two steals. Felician (2-11, 0-5 CACC) broke a 47-47 tie at the 4:37 mark of the second half, with a lay-up from Dee Dee Smith. But, a 9-0 run by the Eagles sparked by a pair of treys from Coley, and one from senior Jennifer Rose, put the Eagles back up 56-49 with 1:52 left in the game. The Eagle defense, held Felician without a field goal for the final 4:37 of the contest. Junior Stephanie Goss sank four free throws, in the final minute to seal the victory for the Eagles, who scored 15 of the final 18 points of the game. In the first half, the Eagles led by as much as 12 points, as Michalak drained a three-pointer, to give Post a 23-13 lead with 9:46 left until halftime. After free throws from Felician's Amanda Bartee, Michalak sank a pair to give the Eagles a 25-15 lead, however, Felician closed the first half out with a 13-2 run, to take a 28-27 lead into the locker room at halftime. Smith led Felician with 16 points, shooting 7-of-15 from the field, and pulling down eight rebounds, four on the offensive glass. Janelle Biamonte chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds. Biamonte also dished out four assists. The Eagles shot 38.5 percent from the field, connecting on 20-of-52 from the field. Post also shot a season-best 60 percent from three-point range, knocking down 12-of-20 from three-point land. Post converted 90.9 percent from the free throw line, converting 10-of-11. Felician shot 32.7 percent from the field, connecting on 18-of-55, and just 2-of-10 from three-point range. At the free throw line, the Falcons shot 73.7 percent (14-19). Felician out rebounded the Eagles 37-36, including a 17-13 advantage on the offensive glass. Post forced Felician into 18 turnovers, while turning the ball over 17 times on its own. Post closes out the five-game road trip on Saturday afternoon,
as it travels to Georgian Court University for a CACC contest.
