Women’s Basketball Falls At Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Conn.--Freshman Mallorie Michalak had 13 points for the Post University women’s basketball team in a 75-47 loss to the University of Bridgeport on Thursday evening at Harvey Hubble Gym.

 

With the win Bridgeport improves to 5-5 on the season, while the Eagles fall to 0-9.

 

Michalak connected on 5-of-8 from the field, while knocking down two three-pointers in the contest. Senior Jennifer Rose netted nine points, pouring in three treys for the second game in a row. 

 

Rose also controlled five rebounds to tie for the team lead. Senior Jackie Sutton had five caroms as well, including three on the offensive glass.

 

Junior Cortensia Davis added seven points on 3-of-6 shooting.

 

Sidney Parson led four Purple Knights in double figures with 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Maja Westman had 12 points, while Shannon Malone had 11 and Siobhan Moore chipped in with 10.

 

Despite connecting on 40 percent (8-20) from the field in the first half, the Eagles finished the game shooting 34.6 percent (18-52), and connected on only 30 percent (6-20) from three-point range, and 55.6 percent (5-9) from the free throw line.

 

Bridgeport shot 50 percent (27-54) from the field, including 63.6 percent (14-22) in the first half. The Eagles held the Purple Knights to 33.3 percent (4-12) from three-point range. Bridgeport shot 77.3 percent (17-22) from the free throw line.

 

The Purple Knights enjoyed a 38-27 advantage on the boards, including a slight 12-10 margin on the offensive glass. There was a combined 47 turnovers between the two teams, with the Eagles committing 26 miscues, and forcing Bridgeport into 21 errors.

 

Post returns to the hardwood on Saturday afternoon, as it travels to Goldey-Beacom College for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
