Women's Basketball Opens 2008 At Bridgeport

January 2, 2008

WATERBURY, Conn.-The Post University women's basketball team begins the 2008 portion of its schedule on Thursday when it travels to the University of Bridgeport for a 7 p.m. tip at the Harvey Hubble Gym. Post will be looking for its first win of the season, while Bridgeport enters the contest with a 4-5 overall record.

This will be the second East Coast Conference (ECC) opponent in a row for the Eagles, as they fell to C.W. Post on December 29 at the Drubner Center. In that game, the Eagles were led by senior Jennifer Rose (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown North) who had 11 points on three three-pointers.

Post has two players averaging in double figures, as senior LaToya Coley (Brooklyn, N.Y./Mohawk Valley C.C.) and junior Stephanie Goss (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) each enter the game averaging 10.1 points per game. Goss also leads the team in rebounding with 6.5 caroms per game.

Freshman point guard Mallorie Michalak (Meriden, Conn./Platt) is third on the team in scoring with 7.0 points per game, she has also dished out 17 assists and is tied for the team lead in steals with 10 on the season.

Bridgeport is coming off a 79-70 win over St. Anselm on December 21, and has been idle since. Siobhan Moore led five Purple Knights in double digits with 14 points.

Shannon Malone leads Bridgeport in scoring with 13.0 points per game, and is shooting 50 percent (50-100) on the season. Sidney Parsons is the only other Purple Knight to average double digits with 10.6 points per game.

Malone also leads the team with 72 rebounds on the season, which is good for an average of 8.0 per game. Twenty-six of her rebounds have come on the offensive glass.

Thursday's game begins the longest road trip of the season for the Eagles, as they will return to the Drubner Center on January 15 against Felician. Six of the next eight games for Head Coach Tracey Garofalo will be away from the Drubner Center.

Following the Bridgeport contest, the Eagles will head to Goldey-Beacom College for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) clash on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m. at the Joseph West Jones Center.
