Women's BasketballWomen's Basketball Wins Second Straight, 74-69 February 15, 2007 WATERBURY, Conn.-The Post University women's basketball team defeated Caldwell College, 74-69, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game at the Drubner Center. The Eagles have now won four of their last six games, and move into the eighth and final spot in the CACC Championships. Senior Tadj Williams led four Post (7-16, 7-11 CACC) players in double figures with 19 points and 14 rebounds. She shot 6-of-10 from the field. Fellow seniors Telisha Moultrie and Marjorie Prado chipped in with 18 points a piece, and junior LaToya Coley added 11 points. Moultrie connected on 9-of-16 from the field, and Prado connected on 7-of-13 from the floor, and nailed three treys on the evening. Caldwell (9-15, 7-12 CACC) came out firing in the first half, connecting on 56.7 percent (17-30) from the field, and knocking down 5-of-10 from three-point range. The Eagles struggled in the opening stanza shooting 37 percent (10-27) from the field and 3-of-8 from three-point range. However in the second half, the Eagles shot 63 percent (17-27) from the field, to erase a 40-27 deficit at halftime. Post would finish the game shooting 50 percent (27-54) from the floor. With Caldwell leading 46-34 with 16:23 left in the second half, the Eagles went on a 17-1 run to take a 53-47 lead with 8:52 to play. Moultrie had eight points in that stretch for the Eagles. Caldwell hung around and would cut the lead to 57-54 with 4:57 to go after a Dana Leary lay-up. The teams would trade baskets, before the Eagles would go up by six points again, after a Coley trey made it 62-56 at the 4:10 mark The teams would exchange foul shots, before Caldwell cut the lead to three points again on an ole fashion three-point play from Khaliqa Davis with 3:44 to play. Coley would knock down another trey to make it 66-60, but Shannon Coyle cut the margin in half with a trey of her own at the 3:00 mark. Melissa Freeman sank a pair of free throws and a jumper from Phylicia Holmes gave Caldwell a 67-66 lead with 1:36 to play. But on the Eagles' next trip down, Prado sank a three-pointer to put the Eagles back on top, 69-67. Davis tied the game with a 10-footer, but a Caldwell foul sent Williams to the line, where she made both to give the Eagles the lead for good. The Eagles would connect on 73.7 percent from the charity stripe on the evening, including 10-of-13 in the second half. Caldwell was led by Coyle who had 19 points to lead three scorers in double digits. Davis chipped in with 15 points, while Leary added 13. Post enjoyed a 40-33 edge on the boards, despite coming up on the short end of an 11-9 margin on the offensive glass. Both teams combined for 54 turnovers in the contest. Post returns to the hardwood on Saturday afternoon for a CACC
contest against Wilmington College Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
Before the game the Eagles will honor its three graduating seniors
in "Senior Day" ceremonies.
