Women's Basketball Knocks Off Goldey-Beacom, 80-73

WILMINGTON, Del.-Seniors Marjorie Prado and Tadj Williams each had 20 points to lead five Post University women's basketball players in double figures, as the Eagles defeated Goldey-Beacom, 80-73, on the road Saturday afternoon.

Post (6-16, 6-11 CACC) also received double digits scoring efforts from senior Telisha Moultrie who had 13 points, junior LaToya Coley who had 11 points, and junior Shannon Firetto who had 10 points.

The Eagles, who led 34-30 at halftime, shot 51.7 percent from the field in the second half to score 46 points in the stanza. Williams had 14 of her 20 points in the second half, and also controlled a game-high 13 rebounds, including nine in the second half.

Goldey-Beacom (15-9, 12-7 CACC) led the early part of the second half, by as much as 10 points, 46-36, at the 16:12 point. But, an 8-0 run by the Eagles, erased the margin to 46-44 at the 13:34 mark of the second half, capped by a lay-up from Coley.

With Goldey-Beacom leading 58-53 with 8:14 to play, a Firetto three-pointer cut the lead to two points with 8:05 left in the contest.

Both teams would convert on their next trips down the court, and GBC found Toni Jones for a lay-up, at the 7:03 mark, to extend the lead to 62-58. Coley sank one of her three treys on the afternoon, cutting the lead to 62-61.

Each team found the bottom of the net on each of their next two trips down the court, which ended in an ole-fashion three-point play for Williams to tie the game at 66-66 with 5:36 left on the scoreboard.

Kim Rowley gave GBC a brief lead, but a Williams bucket, tied the game for the seventh time in the second half. Post would take the lead for good at the 2:16 mark, with a lay-up from Prado.

Post would seal the game at the foul line, converting 10 of its next 12 charity stripe tosses.

The Eagles finished the game shooting 44.6 percent (25-56) from the field, and 53.3 percent (8-15) from three-point range, including 62.5 percent (5-8) in the first half. Post sank 22-of-32 (68.8%) from the free throw line.

Jones led all scorers with 24 points for Goldey-Beacom, as Rowley had 16 points and Cherrise Graham added 15.

GBC shot 40.6 percent (28-69) from the field, 27.3 percent (6-22) from three-point range, and 91.7 percent (11-12) from the free throw line.

Each team controlled 39 caroms a piece, and GBC held a slight 17-16 margin on the offensive glass.

The Eagles return to action on Tuesday, as they travel to Bloomfield College for a CACC game. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
