VolleyballSmith Leads Way, As Volleyball Wins First Match Of Season September 18, 2007 WATERBURY, Conn.-Junior Kerry Smith recorded 24 kills and 15 digs, for her second consecutive double-double, to help lift the Post University women's volleyball team to a 3-2 (20-30, 26-30, 30-27, 30-21, 15-8) win over Dominican College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match Tuesday evening at the Drubner Center. With the win, the Eagles improve to 1-8 overall and 1-0 in CACC play, while Dominican falls to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in the CACC. Freshman Natasha Loving also aided in the offensive output for the Eagles, as she recorded a career-high 19 kills and 11 digs, as Post had three players recorded double-digit kill outings. Sophomore Nicole Gizzi joined the pair with 11 kills. Senior Desere Obregon notched a career-high 53 assists, and 10 digs for her second double-double of the season. Senior Michelle Stotz led Post with 18 digs. Dominican was led by Theresa Hanneman who had 19 kills and 10 digs, while Kinikia Collier had 13 kills and 19 digs. Kaitlin Earl had 37 assists and 11 digs, and Antoinette Hackett had 20 digs for the Chargers. The Eagles recorded 72 kills on the evening and recorded 61 digs, while Dominican had 53 kills and 83 digs in the match. The win was the first for Head Coach Mike Brienza, who is in his first season at the helm of the Post University volleyball program, after coaching in the high school ranks for the past 12 seasons. The Eagles will close out their four-match home stand, their
longest of the season, on Thursday with a CACC clash against
Caldwell College. The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
