Volleyball Selected Second In North Division In CACC Coaches Poll

August 14, 2007

NEW HAVEN, Conn.-The Post University volleyball team was chosen second in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division, as the conference announced the Preseason Coaches Poll this afternoon.

Post received 56 points, to finish second in the North behind Bloomfield who earned 78 points, in a vote by each of the CACC's 13 head coaches. Bloomfield received all 13 first place votes.

Dominican finished in third place with 48 points, followed by Nyack with 44 points, Caldwell with 24 points, and Felician with 23 points to round out the North Division.

The 2007 season marks the first time the CACC will use a divisional format for volleyball. The conference will be split into two divisions North and South. Teams from each division will face each other in home-and-home series, while crossing over to play teams in the other division just once.

Georgian Court was selected to finish atop the South Division, earning 87 points and nine first place votes. Philadelphia was picked second, earning 81 points and four first-place votes. Goldey-Beacom rounded out the top three with 52 points.

Wilmington finished fourth in the South with 48 points, and was followed by Holy Family with 43 points, USP with 39 points, and Chestnut Hill with 14 points.

Last season, the Eagles qualified for the CACC Championships winning their last five matches, and six of their last seven to end the regular season. Post finished the year with a 12-17 overall record and an 8-8 mark in the conference.

The 2007 season begins a new era for the Eagles, as Michael Brienza was tabbed to coach the volleyball program at Post. He comes to his new position after guiding Jonathan Law High School to a 207-47 record in 12 seasons. In addition, he has also won over 400 matches at the club level as well.

The Eagles begin preparations for the 2007 season on Wednesday afternoon, as the team will report to the Drubner Center for orientation meetings, medical test and team pictures, before beginning training sessions for the season opener against Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday, Aug. 29 at home.
