Volleyball Faces Georgian Court In CACC Volleyball Semifinals

WATERBURY, Conn.-The Post University women's volleyball team travels to the University of the Sciences on Friday evening, to face Georgian Court University in the semifinals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championships.

The Eagles, the second-seed in the North Division, will face the top-seed in the South in the first semifinal of the evening at 6 p.m. at Bobby Morgan Arena. Bloomfield will square off with Holy Family, at 8 p.m. in the other semifinal of the evening.

Post enters the weekend with a 9-23 overall record and finished the regular season with an 8-9 CACC record. Georgian Court, the top-seed in the South Division, enters the match with a 28-9 overall record and cruised through the regular season with an 18-0 conference mark.

The semifinal winners will meet in the championship match on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.

Post is making its seventh straight appearance in the CACC Volleyball Championships, and is making its first appearance in the semifinals since 2004, when it defeated Dominican College 3-0.

The Eagles advanced to the semifinals with a 3-0 (30-22, 30-19, 30-28) win over Nyack College in the quarterfinals on Tuesday evening, in front of a raucous crowd at the Drubner Center. Junior Kerry Smith became the second player in school-history to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career with her 1,000th-kill in the second game. She had 12 kills and nine digs to lead the Eagles past the Warriors

Smith enters the match with Georgian Court with 1,004 kills and 1,327 digs, and joins Melissa Czeremcha (2000-03) who had 1,181 kills and 1,087 digs in her collegiate career for the Eagles.

Senior Vicky Ducharme recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 10 kills and 12 digs, for the Eagles. She is two digs shy of 1,200 in her career.

Senior Desere Obregon had 36 assist and 10 digs for her eighth double-double of the season, and senior Michelle Stotz had 16 digs.

Smith leads the Eagles with 359 kills and 394 digs on the season. Freshman Natasha Loving is second on the team with 309 kills, while Obregon has 956 assists this season. Stotz is second on the team with 299 digs

Georgian Court swept USP in its quarterfinal match on Tuesday evening, and are led by junior Ann Casado who was named CACC Player of the Year. She finished the regular season ranked third in the CACC in hitting percentage with a .291 mark and kills per game with a 3.95 per game average. She was second in the CACC in service aces (0.71) and was second on the team with 2.50 digs per game.
