Volleyball Cruises To 3-0 Sweep Of Assumption

WATERBURY, Conn.-Led by senior Tadj Williams, the Post University volleyball team defeated Assumption College 3-0 (32-30, 30-27, 30-22) in a non-conference match Saturday afternoon at the Drubner Center.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 11-16 overall, while Assumption falls to 12-13.

Williams recorded 20 kills for the second match in a row, to lead the Eagle offensive attack. Freshman Haleema Linares chipped in with 11 kills.

Feshman Gabrielle Hopkins dished out 43 assists.

Sophomore Kerry Smith led all players with 15 digs, as three Post players recorded double-digit dig totals. Junior Vicky Ducharme had 13 digs, and sophomore Michelle Stotz added 11.

Tess Wurm who has 12 kills, to lead Assumption, and Sarah Sullivan added 26 assists. Kelly Bluenauer added 10 digs.

The first game, was tightly contested as the Eagles were trailing 22-16, and was able to cut into the deficit by going on a 7-1 run to tie the game at 23-23.

It would go back and forth until the score was once again knotted at 29-29. Smith recorded a kill, and then Molly Shanahan tied it at 30-30, before Linares ripped a kill, and Sullivan had an attacking error to give Post a 32-30 win.

In the second game, the Eagles recorded 13 kills and registered a .371 hitting percentage to take a 30-27 win. In the third and final game, the Eagles recorded 15 kills and only one hitting error en route to a .467 hitting percentage.

Post closes out the regular season on Sunday, with a non-conference match against St. Anselms at 1 p.m. Before the match, the Eagles will honor its lone graduating senior, Williams, in a short ceremony.
