Dawn Spellman Resigns from Post

DAWN SPELLMAN RESIGNS AS VOLLEYBALL AND SOFTBALL COACH

WATERBURY, CT-Dawn Spellman, the winningest coach in Post University softball and women's volleyball history, has resigned her position as Assistant Director of Athletics, Head Women's Volleyball and Softball Coach to pursue a lifelong dream of becoming a police officer. Associate Vice President for Athletics Dan Mara made the announcement.

Spellman guided the softball program to seven Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournaments and to the CACC Tournament Championship in 2003. Her career record was 163-165-3. The Eagles 2005 softball team had the 35th highest grade point average of the 285 NCAA Division II Softball Programs.

She led the volleyball program to heights that will be difficult to duplicate. Her teams went to back-to-back-to-back CACC Tournament Championship games and went on to participate in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Tournament three times. Her career volleyball record was 131-111.

"I would like to thank Senior Vice President Ed Lazarus for the opportunity he gave me and for the continued support he showed throughout my eight years at the University," said Spellman. "I would not be the person I am today and have this opportunity to change careers if it wasn't for my experience as a member of the Post University family."

Spellman coached over two-dozen All-Conference performers in her stay at Post.

"Dawn Spellman has been a tremendous asset to Post University and will be missed," said Lazarus. "Initially, she inherited a new volleyball program that had won one match in the previous season and built it into a perennial CACC power. In addition, as Women's Softball Coach, she led the Eagles to the 2003 CACC Championship. Her athletes were a reflection of herself; disciplined, driven, and always striving to archive greater goals. Ms. Spellman's teams fielded many scholar-athletes who exemplified her commitment to the University and the student-athletes as a true educator."

Spellman has been selected to the Waterbury Police Academy and she is currently attending a 22-week session that will result in her graduation as a police officer for the City of Waterbury.
