Softball Swept At Dowling

BROOKHAVEN, N.Y.-The Post University softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games to Dowling College, Sunday afternoon at Dowling's home field. The Golden Lions won the first game 7-4, and took the nightcap 6-2. Dowling improves to 24-23 overall, while the Eagles fall to 19-23.

In the first game, sophomore Samantha Canning laced an RBI-single to left field, which plated senior Vanessa Lagares from second base. Lagares reached on an error, by the Dowling second baseman.

However, Dowling knotted the game at 1-1 with an RBI-single from Kristina DeMaeo.

The Eagles took the lead back in the top of the third inning, as senior Michelle Stotz led off the inning with a single, and then stole second base. She would come home, on an RBI-single from senior Caitlin McAveney.

Dowling scored twice in the bottom of the third, highlighted by back-to-back doubles by Taras Wallace and DeMeo, to give Dowling a 3-2 lead.

The game broke open in the bottom of the fifth inning, as Dowling scored three runs on four hits.

But senior Allison Williams homered for the second time in as many days for the Eagles in the top of the sixth, to cut into the lead.

Dowling added one more insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, and the Eagles scored once in the top of the seventh. McAveney singled to centerfield then went to second on an error, which allowed Lagares to score her second run of the game.

McAveney went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in, while Canning went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Eagles in the first game.

In the nightcap, The Golden Lions jumped on the board first in the bottom of the second picking up four runs off a RBI triple by Lisa Compitello.

Leadoff hitter, Kacie Pinto smacked an RBI-single to score Compitello at the plate for a 4-0 lead.  The Eagles picked up a run in the top of the third off a RBI single by freshman Tierney Marceau to make it a 4-1 game.  Marceau added another RBI single in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 4-2. 

In the bottom five, Boystak, smashed a triple to right field to start the Golden Lions off followed by an RBI single by Wallace for a 5-2 lead.  In a pick off attempt at first base, Caitlin O'Brien went home for a four run cushion in the bottom six.

Lagares went 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Eagles in the nightcap. Marceau went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Post returns home on Monday, as Dominican College visits LaMoy Field for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
