Softball Takes Nightcap With Queens, To Earn Split

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-Senior Vanessa Lagares went 3-for-4 in the first game and senior Michelle Stotz went 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the nightcap, as the Post University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Queens College, Thursday afternoon at N.Y.I.T.

Queens won the first game 3-2, while the Eagles came back to take the nightcap, 4-0.

In the first game, senior Caitlin McAveney went 2-for-4, while Stotz went 1-for-4 with a run scored. Sophomore Nicole Gizzi scored the other run for the Eagles, as she went 0-for-2 with a walk.

The Eagles scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning, and added another run in the top of the fifth inning to take a 2-0 lead, before Queens scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

McAveney, yielded three runs on eight hits and a walk in six innings of work. She also had a strikeout.

Post broke the nightcap open in the top of the third inning, by putting three runs on the board. The Eagles added an insurance run in the top of the fifth.

Lagares' hot bat carried over to the second game, as she went 1-for-2 with a double a run scored and two runs batted in. McAveney, freshman Tierney Marceau, sophomore Samantha Canning, and senior Allison Williams, each went 1-for-3.

Sophomore Stephanie Carrillo picked up the win, as she was touched for five hits and three walk, keeping Queens off the board. Carrillo struck out five hitters.

Post returns to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Saturday afternoon, as it welcomes Chestnut Hill College to LaMoy Field for the first time. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
