SoftballSoftball Splits Non-Conference Twinbill With Bridgeport April 16, 2008 WATERBURY, Conn.-The Post University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with in-state rival the University of Bridgeport Wednesday afternoon at LaMoy Field. Post won the first game 6-3, but Bridgeport scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning, in the night cap to win 4-2 in extra innings. In the first game, the Eagles scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning, with the bases loaded, senior Allison Williams (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) laced a double to plate sophomore Samantha Canning (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) and freshman Tierney Marceau (Norton, Mass./Norton). Then sophomore Emily Archer (Norton, Mass./Norton) ripped a two-run double that knocked in Williams and sophomore Nicole Gizzi (Waterbury, Conn./Kennedy). Senior Michelle Stotz (Naugatuck, Conn./Naugatuck) capped the scoring with an RBI-single that scored Archer. The Eagles tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth inning, as Marceau laced an RBI-single that scored Stotz, who singled. Archer went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs batted in, and a run scored. Marceau went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Stotz went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Senior Caitlin McAveney (Shohola, Pa./Delaware Valley) picked up the win, giving up three runs, two earned on five hits and no walks. McAveney (9-9) struck out eight batters en route to the victory. In the nightcap, the Eagles struck first scoring a run in the bottom of the second inning. Sophomore Stephanie Carrillo (Los Angeles, Calif./New Roads) singled home Marceau, who led off the inning with a base hit. Carrillo would make it stick as at one point she retired 12-of-13 batters she faced, before giving up a homerun in the top of the seventh inning, to tie the game at 1-1. Carrillo yielded four runs, two earned on eight hits and no walks, while striking out seven. The Eagles return to action, as they travel to Queens College
(NY) on Thursday afternoon, for a non-conference twinbill. The
doubleheader will be played at New York Institute of Technology.
