Softball Splits At Bentley

April 15, 2008

WALTHAM, Mass.-The Post University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at Bentley College on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Eagles are now 15-19 overall, while Bentley is 14-14 overall.

In the first game, the Eagles scored six runs on six Bentley errors, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning and three more in the top of the fourth. Senior Caitlin McAveney picked up the win for the Eagles as she was touched for four runs on eight hits. Sophomore Stephanie Carrillo recorded the final five outs of the game to earn the save.

The duo also helped the Eagle effort at the plate, as McAveney laced an RBI-single and would later cross the plate. Carrillo went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

In the nightcap, Bentley scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning, but senior Desere Obregon ripped an RBI-double to tie the game at 1-1, in the top of the third inning.

But in the bottom of the seventh inning, Ashley DeRosa walked, and would later move to second, before coming home on a base hit from Alex Hitchcock.

Carrillo gave up only four hits in the nightcap for the Eagles.

Post returns to the diamond on Wednesday afternoon, as it welcomes the University of Bridgeport to LaMoy Field. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
