Softball Sweeps Goldey-Beacom In Slugfest

WILMINGTON, Del.-Senior Caitlin McAveney pitched a five-inning one-hitter and sophomore Stephanie Carrillo tossed a five-inning two-hitter as the Post University softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader, with Goldey-Beacom College Saturday afternoon at Nancy C Sawin Field.

Post won the first game 10-1, and came back to win the nightcap 8-0. The sweep lifts the Eagles to 14-18 overall and 5-11 in CACC play, while Goldey-Beacom falls to 7-18 overall and 2-14 in the CACC.

In the first game, McAveney allowed just one unearned run, on one hit and one walk, while striking out three batters, for her seventh win of the season.

Post crossed the plate three times in the top of the first inning, six times in the top of the second, and once in the top of the fourth, before the game was called after the fifth inning.

Senior Desere Obregon led the Eagles at the plate, as she went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs batted in and a run scored. Sophomore Emily Archer went 1-for-3 with a pair of runs, and three RBI. Sophomore Samantha Canning went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI. Carrillo went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.

Senior Michelle Stotz went 1-for-3 with two runs scored. McAveney went 1-for-4 with two runs scored, and freshman Tierney Marceau scored two runs and drove in an RBI, despite going 0-for-3.

Carrillo got the ball in the nightcap, as she was touched for just two hits and no walks, while striking out two. The Eagles scored three runs in the third inning, one in the fourth, and four in the fifth inning.

McAveney went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and two RBI. Senior Allison Williams went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Marceau went 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and a run batted in.

Post returns to LaMoy Field on Tuesday afternoon, as it welcomes Bentley College for a non-conference twinbill. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
