SoftballCarrillo, McAveney Toss Shutouts, To Lead Softball To Sweep Of Nyack April 2, 2008 WATERBURY, Conn.-Sophomore Stephanie Carrillo and senior Caitlin McAveney each pitched a shutout, as the Post University softball team, swept Nyack College, 8-0 and 1-0 on a windy Wednesday afternoon at LaMoy Field. With the win, the Eagles improve to 11-11 overall and 2-6 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). Nyack falls to 4-12 overall and 0-6 in CACC play. In the opener, McAveney allowed just four hits, and struck out four in five innings of work. The Eagles scored two runs in the second, two in the third, three in the fourth, and one in the fifth, and the game was called in the bottom of the fifth inning. Senior Allison Williams went 2-for-3 with her fifth double of the season, and two runs batted in, to lead the Eagles at the plate. Senior Michelle Stotz went 1-for-2 with two runs scored. Sophomore Emily Archer went 1-for-3 with her second double of the season, and had had a run batted in and a run scored. Williams had a two-run double in the bottom of the second inning, to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead. Post added two more runs in the bottom of the third, as Stotz drew a leadoff walk, and came home on the double from Archer. Archer would later come home on a passed ball. Carrillo began the three-run third with a sacrifice-fly that plated sophomore Sarah Beyers. Then with the bases loaded, sophomore Samantha Canning was hit by a pitch, which scored Stotz. Freshman Tierney Marceau lofted a sacrifice-fly to knock in senior Vanessa Lagares. The game would end in the bottom of the fifth, when Lagares singled to drive in McAveney. There was very little offense in the second game, as the teams combined for just seven hits. Carrillo went the distance, yielding just two hits and one walk, while striking out seven to pick up her fifth win of the season. Post finally pushed a run across in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Marceau smacked a one-out double, to put a runner in scoring position. McAveney came up next, and singled putting runners on the corners. Williams grounded into a fielder's choice, which allowed Christine DeJesus, who came in to pinch run for Marceau to score. The Eagles will return to the diamond on Thursday
afternoon, as it travels to Adelphi University for a non-conference
doubleheader, beginning at 3 p.m.
