SoftballBloomfield Takes CACC Doubleheader From Softball March 25, 2008 BLOOMFIELD, N.J.-Bloomfield College swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader from the Post University softball team Tuesday afternoon at Pulaski Field. The Deacons won the first game 3-0, and took the nightcap 10-6. Bloomfield improves to 7-11 overall and 2-2 in the CACC, while The Eagles fall to 8-8 overall and 0-4 in CACC play. In the first game, Bloomfield scored single runs in the second, fifth, and sixth innings, while keeping the Eagles off the board to win the opener 3-0. Sophomore third base Emily Archer (Norton, Mass./Norton) and senior first base Allison Williams (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) each had hits for the Eagles in the opener. Williams had her second double of the season. Senior pitcher Caitlin McAveney (Shohola, Pa./Delaware Valley) was tagged with the loss, as she was touched for three runs, two earned, on four hits and two walks. McAveney (4-4) struck out four hitters in the game, raising her team-best to 39 on the season. The Eagles jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the nightcap, thanks to a four-run second inning. McAveney laced a double down the left field line, to plate Archer, drew a walk to lead off the inning. Senior centerfielder Michelle Stotz (Naugatuck, Conn./Naugatuck) ripped a two-run double to left center, knocking in Williams and McAveney. The Eagles kept the hit parade going, as sophomore right fielder Sarah Beyers (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) roped a single to center, to bring home Stotz. In the third inning, Archer scored on an error by the Bloomfield shortstop, after drawing a lead-off walk. The Eagles added another run, when Stotz hit a pop-fly that was dropped by the shortstop, which allowed sophomore right fielder Amanda Prince (Seabrook, N.H./Winnacunnet) to score. However, the Deacons would score two runs in the bottom of the third inning, two in the fourth, three in the fifth, and two in the sixth, to help Bloomfield overcome the deficit. Stotz went 1-for-3 with a double, two runs batted in and a run scored. McAveney went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and a run batted in. Beyers was 2-for-5 with a run batted in, and sophomore pitcher Stephanie Carrillo (Los Angeles, Calif./New Roads) went 2-for-4. The Eagles will return to the diamond on Wednesday afternoon, as
they host American International, in a non-conference doubleheader.
First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
