Softball Splits On Opening Day Of Spring Break Trip

FORT PIERCE, Fla.-The Post University softball team, opened the 2008 season, splitting a non-conference doubleheader against St. Thomas Aquinas, Sunday afternoon in the first day of the Eagles spring break trip to Florida.

St. Thomas Aquinas won the first game 10-1, and the Eagles took the second game 8-4. Post is now 1-1 on the young season.

In the nightcap, shortstop Emily Archer singled home left fielder Michelle Stotz and pitcher Stephanie Carrillo.

Post added one more run in the second inning, as Stotz's bunt single brought home right fielder Sarah Beyers.

Then in the third inning freshman catcher Tierney Marceau smacked her first career homerun.

In the fourth inning, Carrillo reached on an error by the right fielder, which allowed first baseman Sam Canning and Beyers to score.

Post added a pair of runs in the fifth inning.

Carrillo picked up the win as she recorded seven strikeouts while going the distance for the Eagles.

The win was also the first for Head Coach Tracey Garofalo, who is in her first season as the Eagle mentor.

The Eagles will continue their spring break trip on Monday evening as they will face Millersville University in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m.
