SoftballSoftball Set For CACC Championship May 2, 2007 WATERBURY, Conn.-After missing the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championships last season, the Post University softball team will return to the championship field again this season as the number-five seed in the tournament. The Eagles will face the number-four seed Bloomfield College on Thursday afternoon at Georgian Court University in Lakewood, N.J. Post finished the regular season with a 17-23 overall record and a 13-9 mark in the CACC. The Eagles won seven of their last 10 games against conference opponents, heading into this weekend's action. In the regular season, the Eagles dropped a doubleheader to Bloomfield, after an 11-day layoff, because of the rain. Bloomfield finished the regular season with a 20-16 overall record and a 14-8 mark in conference play. Junior Caitlin McAveney leads the team in hitting with a .321 batting average, heading into the CACC Championships. She has 13 runs batted in and a .400 on base percentage. In the last eight games the junior is hitting 8-of-24 at plate, and has a 1.09 ERA as a pitcher. In the pitching circle this season for the Eagles, she is 8-7 with a 2.06 earned run average. She has three shutouts and one save, while striking out 58 batters. Junior Amanda Misa is second on the team in hitting with a .303 batting average. Misa has scored 25 runs, pounded out 40 hits, including six doubles and one triple, with 17 runs batted in. She is also 10-of-12 in stolen base opportunities. Sophomore Michelle Stotz is just a hair under the .300 mark at .299 with 26 runs scored and 38 hits on the season. She has one double, two triples, and has driven in 10 runners. She has a gaudy .403 on base percentage and has stolen 17 bases in 21 chances. Should the Eagles advance, they will face the number-one seed Georgian Court University Lions at 2 p.m. on Thursday afternoon. In the regular season, the two teams split a conference doubleheader in Lakewood, N.J. The Eagles scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning to the nightcap, 11-8. The tournament format is double-elimination, and the winner will
receive the CACC automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Northeast
Regional Championships.
