SoftballSoftball Clinches Spot In CACC Championships With Sweep At Philadelphia April 28, 2007 PHILDELPHIA-The Post University softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, at the School House Lane Field. Post won the first game 4-0, and took the nightcap, 5-1 in nine innings. The Eagles improve to 17-21 overall and 13-9 in the CACC. Philadelphia falls to 10-28 overall and 6-14 in CACC play. Post has won 10 of its last 14 CACC games, including its last four CACC contests. The complete field for the CACC Championships will be announced on Sunday. In the first game, the Eagles struck first with two runs in the top of the first inning. Senior Megan Pappas knocked in sophomore Michelle Stotz with an RBI single. Pappas then stole second, and one batter later, junior Desere Obregon laced a double to plate Pappas, and give the Eagles a 2-0 lead. Post would add two more runs in the top of the fourth inning, as freshman Emily Archer laced a two-run double, that plated freshman Sarah Beyers and junior Caitlin McAveney. McAveney (8-6) pitched a complete-game shutout giving up only two hits and two walks in the first game of the afternoon. She struck out three, and finished the game retiring 17 of the last 18 batters that she faced. Five Eagles had hits as Stotz went 1-for-4 with a run scored. Pappas was 1-for-3 with a run and a run batted in, and McAveney was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Obregon was 1-for-3 with an RBI, and her sixth double of the season. In the nightcap, junior Amanda Misa's base hit drove in Stotz, to break a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth inning. Stotz began the rally with a two-out base hit. Phildelphia tied it in the bottom of the seventh inning, with a pinch-hit base hit from Melissa Hess. However, the Eagles were able to break the game open with four runs in the top of the ninth to get the victory. Freshman Amanda Prince singled in freshman Karalee Desrosiers to break the tie. Then Prince and senior Shannon Firetto scored when Stotz reached on an error. Misa then brought home Stotz for the fourth run of the inning. Freshman Stephanie Carrillo pitched a complete-game, giving up one run on eight hits and striking out seven to get the win. McAveney led the Eagles at the plate going 3-for-4. Misa went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in, while Prince and Firetto each went 1-for-4 with a run scored. The Eagles will close out the home portion of the schedule on
Sunday afternoon with a non-conference doubleheader against
Aldelphi University. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
