SoftballSoftball Splits CACC Twinbill At Dominican April 20, 2007 BLAUVELT, N.Y.-The Post University softball team scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning, to erase a 6-4 deficit, to defeat Dominican College 7-6 in the first game of a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader at the Dominican College Softball Field, Friday afternoon. Dominican used a walk-off homerun in the seventh inning to take the nightcap, 8-6. With the win in the first game, the Eagles improve to 10-18 and 7-7 in CACC play. Dominican is 14-14 overall and 6-6 in the CACC. In the first game, Dominican jumped out to a 5-0 lead, scoring two runs in the first inning and three runs in the bottom of the second. The Eagles got back in the game in the top of the third inning, scoring four runs on three hits. With one out and the bases loaded, junior Amanda Misa reached on an error by the Dominican shortstop, which allowed junior Vanessa Lagares, and senior Shannon Firetto to come across and score. The Eagles continued to put pressure on, as senior Megan Pappas laced a single to right field, to knock in Misa and sophomore Michelle Stotz. Dominican tacked on a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, to take a 6-4 lead. But, in the top of the fifth inning the Eagles exploded for three runs on four hits. Junior Desere Obregon drew a walk with the bases loaded, which allowed Misa to score. Dominican then brought in Danielle Garrison to pitch, and she retired the first batter she faced, but freshman Samantha Canning laced a two-run single to give the Eagles a 7-6 lead. The Eagles brought in freshman Stephanie Carrillo on to pitch and she retired nine in a row, for her first career save. Junior Caitlin McAveney picked up her fourth win of the season, striking out five batters in four innings of work. At the plate Pappas was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in. Misa was 1-for-4 with two runs scored and run batted in. Obregon was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. In the nightcap, Dominican scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning, and the Eagles quickly answered with a homerun from Canning in the top of the second inning. It was her first career round tripper. Post added two more runs in the top of the fourth inning, as Obregon blasted her first homerun of the season, with a two-run shot to left field. The Eagles would add one run in the fifth and six innings, before Dominican scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, to take a 6-5 lead. Post tied it in the top of the seventh inning as Priscillia Encarnacao ripped a single to centerfield, to plate Misa, who had an infield single. Obregon was 2-for-4, to lead three Eagles with multi-hit games. Canning was 2-for-3, and freshman Karalee Desrosiers was 2-for-3 with a run batted in. The Eagles return home on Saturday to host Goldey-Beacom for a
CACC doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. at LaMoy Field.
