Queens Takes Twinbill From Softball

WATERBURY, Conn.-The Post University softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader against Queens College on Thursday afternoon at LaMoy Field. The Eagles, who were playing for the first time in five days, fell 7-1 in the opener and 4-1 in the nightcap.

Queens improves to 12-14 overall, while the Eagles fall to 9-17 on the season.

In the first game, Post fell behind 1-0 in the top of the second inning, and Queens tacked on three more runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 4-0 lead.

Post was finally able to get a run on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning. Senior Shannon Firetto had a one-out single, and went to third on a base hit from junior Desere Obregon, putting runners on the corner for junior Amanda Misa, who singled in Firetto.

Queens added one more run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to take a 7-1 lead, as it pounded out 15 hits in the first game of the afternoon.

Misa was 1-for-3 with the run batted in for the Eagles in the first game of the day.

In the nightcap, Queens scored the first run of the game on a sacrifice-fly, but the Eagles quickly tied it in the home half of the first inning. Sophomore Michelle Stotz drew a leadoff walk, and Obregon laid down a sacrifice bunt, and Stotz flashed her base running prowess by advancing to third, however the ball got away from the Queens third baseman and Stotz scored to knot the game at 1-1.

The score would remain tied at 1-1, until the top of the fourth inning, when Rita Limitone corked a two-run homerun, giving Queens a 3-1 lead. It added an insurance run in the fifth inning, taking a 4-1 lead.

Freshman Emily Archer went 1-for-1 for the Eagles, and seniors Megan Pappas and Priscillia Encarnaca each went 1-for-3.

Post returns to action on Friday afternoon with a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) twinbill at Dominican College. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
