Softball Sweeps USP, Improves To .500 In CACC

WATERBURY, Conn.-After winning the first game 8-6, the Post University softball team trailed 10-3 going into the bottom of the sixth inning, and scored five runs in the sixth and three runs in the seventh for an 11-10 come-from-behind win on Saturday afternoon at LaMoy Field.

In the bottom of the seventh, senior Jackie Davis laced a one-out single to start the rally for the Eagles. Junior Vanessa Lagares the doubled and senior Shannon Firetto corked a double, to plate Lagares and pinch-runner freshman Stephanie Carrillo knotting the game at 10-10. Firetto stole third, and scored the game-winning run on a passed ball.

In the nightcap, Lagares was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a run batted in. Senior Megan Pappas was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in. Junior Amanda Misa was the third Eagle to have a multi-hit game, as she was 2-for-5 with a run scored and a run batted in.

Pappas picked up the victory in the nightcap going the distance to record four strikeouts.

The Eagles scored 19 runs on 21 hits combined on the afternoon.

In the first game Pappas was 3-for-4 with a double and a RBI. Misa was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and a run scored. Junior Allison Williams was 2-for-3 with a double two runs batted in and a run scored.

Carrillo pitched six and one-third innings to record her second victory of the season, while junior Caitlin McAveney pitched two-thirds of an inning to notch her first save of the season.

Post travels to American International on Sunday for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 1:30 p.m.
