March 28, 2007

NYACK, N.Y.-Freshman Stephanie Carrillo pitched a complete game shutout, and freshman Karalee Desrosiers went 1-for-3 with a run batted in, as the Post University softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader at Nyack College, on Wednesday afternoon at Hilltop Field.

Post (3-9, 1-3 CACC) took the first game 2-0, but gave up five runs in the first two innings of the nightcap to fall, 6-2.

The Eagles started the first game of the afternoon quickly, with a run in the top of the first inning. Junior Amanda Misa drew a leadoff walk, and stole second to put a runner in scoring position. She then went to third, on a ground out from sophomore Michelle Stotz. Misa came home, on an RBI ground-out by Desrosiers.

Carrillo (1-3) got into a little bit of trouble in the bottom of the second inning as a walk, a base hit, and a strike out and a passed ball loaded the bases with two outs. However, she was able to get out of the jam, without any further problems.

The Eagles scored the second run of the opening game, in the top of the seventh inning, as junior Caitlin McAveney's RBI-single, plated junior Desere Obregon. Obregon led the inning off, reaching on an error by the Nyack right fielder.

It was the first collegiate win for Carrillo, who kept the Warriors (4-11, 1-3 CACC) off the board, giving up seven hits and one walk, while recording seven strikeouts.

Junior Allison Williams was 1-for-3 with a double, and McAveney was 1-for-1 with a run batted in, as a pinch hitter.

In the nightcap, Nyack's Lauren Jacobs gave up two runs on four hits, while striking out eight to record the win.

Nyack score one run in the bottom of the first inning and four in the home half of the second inning to take a 5-0 lead.

The Eagles would finally get on the board in the top of the third inning, as with two outs, Misa roped a double, plating senior Shannon Firetto, who scored from first base, after a base hit.

Post would add its second run of the day in the top of the seventh inning, as senior Jackie Davis' run-scoring single plated freshman Samantha Canning, who had a one-out double.

The Eagles will open the home portion of their schedule on Thursday afternoon, as they welcome Molloy College to LaMoy Field, for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 2:30 p.m.
