SoftballSoftball Spring Break Notebook March 14, 2007 FORT MEYERS, Fla.-The Post University softball opened the 2007 season this week during spring break in Florida. The Eagles are halfway through its spring break trip, and will look to break their four-game losing streak on Thursday afternoon with a split doubleheader against Edinboro and North Dakota. Spring Break Sights and Sounds: Entering today's games, the Eagles have lost three straight
games by one-run ... In each of those contests, the Eagles were
either leading or tied going into the seventh inning ... Post
opened the season with a 4-0 loss to St. Michael's on Monday
morning ... Freshman Stephanie Carrillo made her
collegiate debut for the Eagles ... She pitched seven innings
giving up four runs on eight hits and two walks and two strikeouts
... In the second game of the trip against Upper Iowa, Senior
Megan Pappas tossed seven innings giving up five
runs on seven hits and three walks, she also had two strikeouts and
helped her own cause by blasting a two-run homerun ... Freshman
Samantha Canning was 2-for-3 at the plate, while
junior Caitlin McAveney had a pinch-hit triple ...
Sophomore Michelle Stotz went 1-for-3 with a run
batted in ... In the third game of the trip on Tuesday against West
Chester University ... The Eagles lost their second one-run game,
after having the bases loaded in the seventh inning, before falling
4-3 ... Junior Vanessa Lagares went 2-for-4,
junior Amanda Misa went 2-for-4, and Pappas went
1-for-4 with two runs batted in ... Pappas also pitched one inning
in relief giving up no hits and striking out one batter ... In the
nightcap on Tuesday, the Eagles dropped a tough 9-8 decision to the
University of North Dakota in eight innings ... Post jumped out to
a 2-0, and the lead would go back and forth, before the score was
tied 6-6 after the second inning ... North Dakota scored two runs
to make it 8-6, but the Eagles tied it in the fifth to make it 8-8
... North Dakota scored in extra innings to take a 9-8 win ...
Carrillo tossed seven innings striking out four ... Stotz went
3-for-5 with a run scored, Misa was 3-for-4 with three runs scored
and two runs batted in ... Junior Allie Williams
smacked a home run and drove in two ... Lagares was 2-for-2 with a
run scored ... For the trip Stotz leads the team going 5-for-14
with a run batted in and two runs scored ... Misa has gone 5-for-12
with three runs batted in ... Pappas is 4-of-15 with four RBI, and
McAveney is 3-of-7 with a homerun four runs batted in and three
runs scored ... Head Coach Todd McEvoy began his
first season as the Eagle skipper, after spending the last few
years as an assistant coach ... Post returns to the diamond on
Thursday with a split doubleheader against Edinboro and North
Dakota ... The trip concludes on Friday against a pair of Northeast
Region teams, Bentley and St. Michael's.
