Softball Opens Season In Florida

FORT MEYERS, Fla.-The Post University softball team opened the 2007, on Monday afternoon with a split doubleheader against St. Michael's and Upper Iowa University. In the first game of the day on Monday, the Eagles fell to St. Michael's 4-0, and came back in the nightcap to fall 5-4 against Upper Iowa.

On Tuesday, the Eagles dropped two more games, each by one run to West Chester University, 4-3, and the University of North Dakota, 9-8 in eight innings.

Against West Chester, the Eagles had the bases loaded in the seventh inning, but could not push a run across. It was the third straight game, in which the Eagles had a lead or was tied going into the final inning.

In the North Dakota contest, the Eagles took a 2-0 lead, then tied it at 5-5 and dropped an extra inning affair to one of the top Division II teams in the country.

The Eagles will have the day off on Wednesday, before returning to action on Thursday afternoon for a 9 a.m. game against Edinboro University and the second meeting of the season against North Dakota.

The trip will conclude on Friday against a pair of Northeast Region rivals, Bentley at 9 a.m. and St. Michael's at 11 a.m.
