Merrimack Nips Men's Soccer 1-0

September 16, 2007

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.-Merrimack's goal in the 15th minute of play proved to be the difference, as the Post University men's soccer team fell to the host Warriors, in the second round of the Merrimack Tournament at Warrior Field on Sunday afternoon.

Merrimack improves to 7-1-1 on the season, while the Eagles fall to 1-6.

Tiago Dalboni dribbled the ball toward the goal, which drew junior Dan Nadel from the box that enabled Dalboni to pass the ball to Donnie Aylward, who fired the ball on an empty net, giving the Warriors a 1-0 lead, at the 14:54 mark.

Sophomore Eurica Trowers led the Eagles with four shots, while freshman Frantzy Noze and sophomore Johan Pineda each had two shots in the contest.

Nadel recorded seven saves, including four in the first half for the Eagles, while Merrimack's Jason Baker stopped two shots in the win.

Merrimack out shot the Eagles 14-10, and had a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

The Eagles will return to the pitch on Thursday afternoon, as they head down Route 8, to face the University of Bridgeport in a non-conference match at Knights Field. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
