Men's SoccerWalker's Tally Lifts Men's Soccer To Double Overtime Win September 15, 2007 NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.-Sophomore Abby Walker scored the game-winner in the 102nd minute, giving the Post University men's soccer team, a 2-1 win over Stonehill College, in the first round of the Merrimack College Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Warrior Field. The Eagles improve to 1-5 on the season while, Stonehill falls to 2-4. Walker netted his first goal of the season and second of his career, with about a minute and a half into the second overtime, breaking a 1-1 tie. The Eagles controlled the pace of play throughout the contest, playing arguably their best game of the season. Post's first goal of the afternoon in the 23rd minute as an Eagle attacker volleyed a pass into the foot of freshman Frantzy Noze, who was set up about 20 yards out. He was able to turn around and fire a shot into the back of the net, for his first career goal. Stonehill, however, provided the equalizer in the 28th minute, when senior goalkeeper Marco Gaspar mishandled a ball in the box, and Stonehill's Shaun Keeley gained control and put it into the back of the net, to knot the score at 1-1. The score would remain tied until the end of regulation, thanks to Stonehill goalkeeper Brian Guerrini who made two saves in the extra session and junior Dan Nadel, who came on in relief at the start of the second half, stopping one shot, and keeping the Skyhawks off the board. Gaspar made two saves in the first half. Post outshot Stonehill 11-7, and enjoyed a 7-2 margin in the second half. The Eagles had a commanding 9-1 edge in corner kicks, including a 6-1 edge in the second half. It was a fairly clean game as only nine fouls were whistled between the two teams. The Eagles will conclude play on Sunday as it faces the host
Merrimack, who defeated C.W. Post 4-1 in the other match on
Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. at Warrior Field.
