Late Goal Lifts Molloy To 3-2 Win Over Men's Soccer

September 1, 2007

WATERBURY, Conn.-Sophomore Eurica Trowers scored twice for the Post University men's soccer team, but visiting Molloy College, was able to find the back of the net with 27 seconds remaining to break a 2-2, defeating the Eagles, Saturday afternoon at LaMoy Field.

Kieran Wallis riffled a shot passed Post (0-3) goalkeeper Marco Gaspar with time running out on the clock, giving Molloy (2-0-1) the lead. However, the Eagles came down the field to set up one last opportunity, getting a corner kick with roughly 12 seconds left in regulation. But Molloy was able to play good defense and not allow an Eagle scoring opportunity.

Molloy broke the ice in the 13th minute as Gabe Ramos set up Emmanuel Gamez for his first goal of the afternoon.

Post knotted the score at 1-1 in the 33rd minute as sophomore Johan Pineda fired a shot on goal that deflected off a Molloy defender, and went to the foot of Trowers who netted the Eagles first goal of the season.

The Eagles took a 2-1 lead in the 35th minute as junior Luis Figueirdo fed Trowers, who got free sprinting down the right side of the field, and to the goal.

Gamez provided the equalizer for Molloy with an unassisted tally in the 68th minute of play.

Ettore Morelli made five saves for Molloy to get the win, and Mike Roecklein recorded one in 18 minutes of relief.

Gaspar had three saves for Post in his season debut.

Post outshot Molloy 14-12, but Molloy enjoyed a 9-2 margin in corner kicks. Molloy was whistled for 17 fouls, and the Eagles were guilty of 12 infractions on the afternoon. Each team was called offsides twice.

The Eagles return to action next Saturday, as they travel to Holy Family University for its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match of the season. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.
