Men's Soccer Picked To Finish Fourth In Preseason Coaches Poll

NEW HAVEN, Conn.-Fresh off its run to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Soccer Championships a year ago, the Post University men's soccer team was picked to finish fourth in the 2007 CACC Preseason Coaches Poll, as the conference announced the results on Monday afternoon.

Post garnered 70 points in the poll voted on by each of CACC's 10 head coaches. Post also received two first place votes. Dominican, which defeated the Eagles 1-0 in the 2006 CACC Championship game, was the league favorite, earning 93 points, and five first place votes.

Wilmington earned 85 points and received two first place votes, and was followed by Caldwell with 80 points overall and one first place vote, and the Eagles in fourth.

Holy Family was selected to finish fifth with 58 points and the lone remaining first place vote. Nyack was picked sixth with 48 points and was followed by Felician with 44 points, Goldey-Beacom with 36 points, league newcomer Chestnut Hill with 20 points and Bloomfield with 16 points.

The Eagles return 16 players from last year's team, which finished third in the conference, with a 9-7-5 overall record and a 4-1-3 mark in CACC play. Post was third in the conference in goals allowed, with a 1.10 goals allowed average (23 total).

In addition, last season the Eagles finished the season strong, as they were unbeaten in 12 of their last 18 contests, and at one point in the season, unbeaten in 11 of 13 matches. At home, the Eagles were winners of nine of their 11 matches at LaMoy Field, while reaching the CACC Championships for the second consecutive season, under Head Coach Ted Haley.

Post opens the season against a pair of highly touted opponents from last season, at the Southern Connecticut State University Tournament, August 24-26.

The Eagles open the season against the host Owls, who finished last season ranked sixth in the final NSCAA National Poll, with a 17-3-3 overall record. Post will also square off with the number-nine raked team from a year ago, Franklin Pierce in the second round of the tournament. FPU finished last year with a 17-2-3 overall mark.
