Men's Soccer Knots Bloomfield, 2-2

October 26, 2007

BLOOMFIELD, N.J.-The Post University men's soccer team tied Bloomfield College, 2-2 on a wet and muddy Friday afternoon, to clinch the number-five seed in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Soccer Championships.

The Eagles (4-13-1, 3-5-1 CACC) will face the number-four seed Holy Family University on Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. Monday's match will take place on the Holy Family campus. Holy Family defeated the Eagles 1-0, earlier this season, at the Campus Center Field

Early on, the Eagles struggled, allowing two Bloomfield (3-11-3, 2-4-3) goals in the first 17 minutes of the contest.

But, Post was able to cut the lead in half in the 29th minute, when sophomore Eurica Trowers notched his 13th goal of the season, taking a pass from sophomore Andrew Nelson and putting it in the top half net from inside the penalty box.

It would remain 2-1 in favor of the Deacons until the 80th minute, when senior Raleigh Woodburn ripped a shot from the top of the 18-yard box and it deflected off a defender and sophomore Johan Pineda headed into the back of the next, knotting the game at 2-2.

As rain fell and conditions became sloppy, each team was able to get a few quality scoring chances, however both goalkeepers kept the score tied and it would end that way after a pair of overtime periods.

Senior Marco Gaspar made eight saves for the Eagles, while Julian Gaviria stopped eight shots as well for Bloomfield.

Bloomfield held a 26-15 advantage in shots, but the Eagles had a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

The winner of Monday's quarterfinal match will face the number-one seed Dominican College on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 11 a.m. at Tryon Field in Rutherford, N.J. The winners of the semifinals will face each other on Saturday, Nov. 3 in the championship match at 6 p.m.
