Men's Soccer Falls On The Road To New Haven, 2-1

WATERBURY, Conn.-An own goal at the 76:48 mark of the contest proved to be the difference as the Post University men's soccer dropped its final regular season contest, 2-1 on Saturday morning to the University of New Haven at Dodds Stadium.

The loss drops the Eagles to 7-6-5 on the season, and they will host Felician College in the quarterfinals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Soccer Championships at 2 p.m. at LaMoy Field. New Haven improves to 6-10-2 overall.

New Haven scored the first goal of the game at the 15:16 mark went Ajani Maillard sent a long cross that Post goalkeeper sophomore Dan Nadel came out to play, but he misjudged it, and Antonio Carrozza picked it up and put it in the back of the net.

The Eagles would tie it at the 60:16 mark, as sophomore Alex Brito got pas the midfield and sent a volley that went into the back of the net, knotting the score at 1-1. It was Brito's third goal of the season.

But, New Haven would take the lead at the 76:48 mark, when Jessey Fernandez took a corner kick that bent in, and off the top of a Post defender and into the goal, giving the Chargers the lead for good.

Post held a 17-10 margin in shots, and held a slight 4-3 edge in corner kicks. The Eagles were called for 19 fouls, while the Chargers were whistled for 14.

The Eagles will host Felician in the quarterfinals of the CACC Championships, as the number-three seed. In the regular season, the Eagles and Felician played to a 1-1 tie in double overtime on October 3 at LaMoy Field.
